Abby and Brittany Hensel have kept their personal lives out of the public eye for years.
But when a major update about Abby recently went public, people were left wondering about whether she and Brittany are planning to become mothers someday.
So what exactly have Brittany and Abby said in the past about having children?
Will Conjoined Twins, Abby and Brittany, Have Children Soon?
The details surrounding their potential plans to have babies are seriously surprising, so let’s break them down.
Abby and Brittany are 34 years old now, but when they were younger, they made a few different TV appearances.
In 2006, TLC aired a documentary about their lives as teenagers, called Joined for Life: Abby and Brittany Turn 16.
But the last time the twins were on TV was in 2012, when they starred in Abby & Brittany, a reality series on TLC.
Ever since then, Abby and Brittany have kept extremely low profiles.
Shocking Reasons Abby and Brittany Made Major Headlines
But after staying out of the spotlight for more than a decade, they recently made major headlines for a shocking reason.
According to TODAY, Abby is a married woman now.
Despite the fact that the news of her milestone just went public a couple of weeks ago, she’s actually been married for a few years.
Public records reveal that in 2021, she tied the knot with Josh Bowling.
But that’s not the only exciting update about her life.
Abby is Now a Stepmother
The New York Post reported that when Abby became a wife, she also became a stepmother.
It turns out that Josh has an 8-year-old daughter, Isabella, from a previous marriage, and it sounds like Abby, Brittany, Josh, and his daughter all get along incredibly well.
In the article published by TODAY, it was revealed that the little family enjoys going on hikes, spending time in nature, tubing in the snow, and going out for ice cream.
As of right now, neither Abby nor Brittany has had biological children yet.
Are Babies in the Future for Abby and Brittany?
But if their interest in becoming mothers hasn’t changed, it still could be a possibility for both of them in the future.
At one point during Joined for Life: Abby and Brittany Turn 16, the twins’ mom, Patty Hensel, explained that Brittany and Abby had mentioned wanting to have babies someday.
Since Brittany and Abby share most of their organs below the waist, that means they have one reproductive system.
Patty claimed that all of the organs included in that particular system were functional.
So if Abby and Brittany decided that they still wanted to have children when they were older, they most likely could.
In another scene from the documentary, the girls echoed what their mom said.
They didn’t elaborate much on the topic of having kids, but based on their confirmation, it seemed clear that they hoped it would happen in the future.
However, Brittany revealed that she and Abby hadn’t put too much thought into the process of actually having kids and how it would work.
But at the time, that didn’t seem to be an urgent issue for either of them for a completely valid reason.
Now, almost 20 years have passed since the twins filmed Joined for Life: Abby and Brittany Turn 16.
During that time, Brittany and Abby have probably put a lot more thought into how becoming mothers would work for both of them.
They’ve also gotten very used to interacting with kids, because of their fascinating career choices.
The twins’ 2012 reality show, Abby and Brittany, only lasted for one season.
But when the series wrapped, the sisters were saying goodbye to their college days.
Abby and Brittany both ended up graduating with education degrees, and they landed teaching jobs right away.
According to the Daily Mail, Brittany and Abby are currently working as fifth grade teachers at an elementary school in New Brighton, Minnesota.
They’ve reportedly been teaching for over ten years, which might be one of the reasons why they’ve chosen to stay out of the public eye for so long.
But if the twins choose to have a biological baby someday, it would probably be pretty difficult to keep the news totally under wraps.
Abby and Brittany Could Be ‘The First Female Dicephalic Twins to Do So’
The National Library of Medicine’s website states that the technical term for conjoined twins who are “fused side-by-side with a shared pelvis” are dicephalic parapagus twins.
It’s apparently very rare for dicephalic twins to survive into adulthood, which means that Brittany and Abby are already unique.
But according to Hello! magazine, if Abby and Brittany decide to have a biological child, they would be making world history as “the first female dicephalic twins to do so.”
There’s been an unbelievable amount of media attention on the twins lately because of Abby’s marriage being publicly revealed.
If they decide to have kids someday and set a world record by doing so, there will almost certainly be even more excitement and attention from the media.
But for now, it seems like Abby is enjoying her role as a stepmother.
Up until recently, it sounded like there was a possibility that Abby could actually be a stepmom to two children instead of one.
Details About Josh Bowling’s, Abby’s Husband, Bizarre Paternity Suit
Not long after the details of her marriage began making headlines, People magazine reported that her husband, Josh, was listed in a truly bizarre paternity suit.
In October 2023, Josh’s ex-wife and daughter’s mother, Annica Bowling, shockingly filed a paternity suit against him as well as another man, Gavin Vatnsdal.
Believe it or not, shortly after Josh and Annica split up in 2019, she ended up welcoming another daughter into the world.
But according to Radar Online, both Josh and Annica have acknowledged that he never believed that there was a chance that he could be her youngest daughter’s father.
However, because they were still legally married at the time she became pregnant, he was basically included in the paternity suit by default.
Annica claimed in the legal documents that a DNA test had been performed, and the results had ultimately proven that Gavin was the biological father of her youngest child.
In Josh’s response to the suit, he revealed that he and Annica were married from 2010 to 2019, although their divorce wasn’t finalized until April 2020.
It’s crazy how many details have recently been exposed about Josh’s marriage to Abby and his paternity situation as well.
Why Abby and Brittany Didn’t Want to Live Completely in the Public Eye
However, if Abby and Brittany do end up having a child in the future, we might not know anything about it for quite a while.
After all, they did somehow manage to keep the news of Abby’s marriage out of the spotlight for close to three years.
There’s a very good chance that Abby and Brittany will try to keep any future baby news quiet, mainly because they’re super private.
For years, the twins and their family were careful about choosing which details they publicly revealed, and that most likely isn’t going to change.
Even when they were much younger, Abby and Brittany knew that they didn’t want to live completely in the public eye.
At one point during Joined for Life: Abby and Brittany Turn 16, the reasoning behind why they occasionally shared updates with the world was discussed.
Apparently, Abby, Brittany, and their parents decided relatively early on that they weren’t going to appear on every talk show or give interviews to every magazine that made a request.
The twins only wanted to give people rare updates about their lives in order to answer some of their questions.
For the most part, Abby and Brittany chose to occasionally appear on TV shows or give interviews to the press just to remind people how normal their lives were.
But in one clip, they explained why they didn’t share more details of their personal lives in a pretty simple way.
It’s safe to say that if Brittany and Abby end up having a baby in the future and they manage to keep it a secret, they’ll decide when to break the news and which details to reveal.
For now, they’re most likely going to keep living as normally and as privately as possible, at least until they choose to share another update with the world.
But now that we’ve gotten into what Brittany and Abby have said in the past about wanting to eventually become mothers, I want to know what you guys think.
What are your thoughts on their plans to have babies someday?
Are you surprised that Abby and Josh tied the knot in 2021, but the news of their marriage didn’t go public until recently?
